REQUEST: By Minute Motion, ratify the expenditure of $40,945 for advertising buys in
Good Housekeeping magazine for fiscal year 04/05. This amount is in the
04/05 Marketing budget.

Recommendation:
By Minute Motion, ratify the expenditure of $40,945 for advertising buys in Good Housekeeping
magazine for fiscal year 04/05. This amount is in the 04/05 Marketing budget.
Discussion:
In June 2004, the Marketing Committee approved the 04/05 media plan. The plan included
spending the subject dollars for buys in Good Housekeeping. The Committee agreed that the
leads generated by the ads placed in this publication warranted the expenditure.
In fiscal year 2003/04, the Visitor Information Center distributed 7,100 vacation planners to
interested travelers who responded to Palm Desert's advertisements in Good Housekeeping
Magazine.
This year's advertising campaign, which also was approved by the Marketing Committee,
features several smaller ads (PD Rocks, PD Swings, PD Dazzles, and PD Cooks), which are
scattered throughout the publication, which gives the ads a high frequency of being noticed by
the reader.
This media buy includes four, one -sixth page ads in two separate issues of Good
Housekeeping. The first issue is the October 2004 featuring a special section on Pacific Travel.
The second issue is the March 2005 Play in California feature. These Pacific regional buys has
a circulation of 840,000 per issue.
