City Engineer APPLICANT: Dudek & Associates, Inc. 75-150 Sheryl Avenue, Suite C Palm Desert, CA 92211 DATE: December 9, 2004 CONTENTS: Change Order No. 1, Vicinity Map Recommendation: By Minute Motion: Approve Change Order No. 1 to Contract No. C21590 with Dudek & Associates, in the amount of $34,000.00 Discussion: On July 10, 2003, City Council approved Contract No. C21590, between Dudek & Associates, and the City of Palm Desert, for design engineering relating to the Dinah Shore Drive and Portola Avenue Extension, in the amount of $58,880.00 plus Contingency in the amount of $5,888.00. It has been the plan of the City of Palm Desert to extend Dinah Shore Drive and Portola Avenue. The proposed improvements to Portola Avenue involve the extension of this arterial from the intersection of Gerald Ford Drive to the proposed intersection of Portola Avenue -Dinah Shore Drive. The proposed Improvements to Dinah Shore Drive involve the extension of this major thoroughfare to the proposed intersection of Portola Avenue -Dinah Shore Drive. Staff Report Approve Change Order No. 1 to Contract No. C19250 Page 2 of 2 December 9, 2004 In careful consideration with the design engineer, staff, and in keeping with uniformity with the General Plan Update, the determination was made to classify, Portola Avenue, between Frank Sinatra Drive and Gerald Ford Drive, as a six - lane arterial. At the time when contract No. C19250, was awarded, this roadway segment had a four -lane classification. Currently, there is minimal right of way to implement a road widening, without severely impacting the westerly residential developments, between Frank Sinatra Drive and Gerald Ford Drive. Thus, upon close examination and anticipating resolving this future conflict, staff would propose to shift the centerline roadway east, to accommodate the ultimate Portola Avenue roadway arterial, between Frank Sinatra Drive through Dinah Shore Drive. The consultant will provided additional plan revisions anticipating the easterly realignment of Portola Avenue. In addition, the design engineer will redesign the two the traffic signals. The following is a summary of the additional work and fee: • Profile Alignment Changes • Plan Revisions to Portola Avenue, between Gerald Ford Drive and Dinah Shore Drive • Traffic Signal Modifications at 1. Portola Avenue & Gerald Ford Drive 2. Portola Avenue & Dinah Shore Drive Total Estimated Cost $34,000.00 Funds are available for this change in account 213-4365-433-4001.
