As part of the job, a meandering sidewalk is to be installed along Country Club Drive. Before Granite Construction cut the grade for the sidewalk, they discovered sprinklers where the sidewalk was supposed to go. Because this project is of a time -sensitive nature, staff authorized Sierra Landscape Company to remove the sprinklers from the path of the sidewalk, and to replace the sprinklers in an appropriate spot after the sidewalk is installed. This work was considered emergency work because if it had not been done immediately, it would have restricted the prime contractor from being able to work on the job. This would have caused a time delay and the contractor could have charged the City for mobilizing a crew and not being able to work until the sprinklers were out of the way. It is also critical that there be no time delay so that construction is done before the new school opens. Staff Report Ratify Emergency Work for Sierra Landscape Company (Project 713-04) Page 2 of 2 December 9, 2004 Sierra Landscape Company was chosen based on the fact that they could guarantee that they would have the sprinklers removed in the short time frame they were given, and a crew was available immediately. Funds for this expenditure are available in Account No. 400-4377-433-4001. Therefore, staff recommends that City Council, by minute motion, ratify staff's authorization of emergency work in the amount of $8,662 related to the street and median improvements on Country Club Drive - Capital Improvement Project 713-04.
