REQUEST: CONSIDERATION TO APPROVE HONORARIUMS TO THE
THREE FINALISTS FOR THE LIBRARY MURAL PROJECT
SUBMITTED BY: PUBLIC ART PROGRAM
DATE: JUNE 24, 2004
CONTENTS: LIST OF SUGGESTIONS
Recommendation:
By Minute Motion, approve honorariums in the amount of $1,000 to each of the
three finalists for the Library mural project from account #436-454-30-92.
Executive Summary:
At its meeting on June 16, 2004, the Art in Public Places Commission
unanimously approved $1,000 honorariums for each of the three finalists for the
Library mural project. Each artist will create a final color rendering of his/her
mural design, which will be presented to the Art in Public Places Commission for
review. The Commission will prioritize the three renderings for City Council's
final selection.
Discussion:
The Art in Public Places Commission received forty entries for the national
competition for the public Library mural project. The Commission selected three
finalists from the entries. The three proposals were presented to the Library
Committee, which had several suggestions for what could be incorporated into
the mural's final design. Each artist will be asked to create a final color rendering
of his/her design for the mural, which will incorporate the suggestions of the
Library Committee as well as the original items in the Request for Proposal.
