Home My WebLink AboutPurchase Gateway Televisions for the Desert Willow Bar Area$-S CITY OF PALM DESERT STAFF REPORT REQUEST: AUTHORIZE STAFF TO PURCHASE THE GATEWAY TELEVISIONS FOR THE DESERT WILLOW BAR AREA SUBMITTED BY: DAVE YRIGOYEN, DIRECTOR OF REDEVELOPMENT DATE: MARCH 25, 2004 CONTENTS: QUOTES FROM GATEWAY Recommendation: By Minute Motion, that the City Council authorize staff to purchase three Gateway televisions under the City's government contracts procurement process in the amount of $12,907.84 to be installed at the Desert Willow Bar Area. Discussion: There are currently two 27-inch televisions that service the main bar area at Desert Willow. Staff is proposing to install two 30 inch and one 42-inch high - definition plasma television screens. The two 30-inch screens will go on the east wall of the bar area over the bar itself, the 42-inch screen will be mounted on the rock wall over the fireplace. The new screens will improve the quality of television viewing and increase bar sales. The bar area is extremely bright during the day and makes television viewing difficult. The larger screens and added television will make viewing more pleasant and easier to view from each seat in the bar. Staff is purchasing the screens from Gateway through the City's government contract procurement process. This is similar to the method by which we procure our computers. We have found pricing to be extremely competitive through this process. In obtaining bids, Gateway was much lower through this process than the one other bid we received. Additionally, the Gateway store is in the City and the screens can be obtained directly from the local store. Staff will be looking to revamp the snack bar area at the west end of the Clubhouse to increase bar area. At that time, we will be looking for screens in that area also.
