PALM DESERT
MARKETING COMMITTEE MINUTES
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2004
2:00 P.M.
ADMINISTRATIVE CONFERENCE ROOM
I. CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Rodriguez called the meeting to order at 2:05 p.m.

IV. CONSENT CALENDAR
A. Request for approval of the June 15, 2004 Meeting Minutes.

Motion was made by Norine Bowen to approve the June 15, 2004,
meeting minutes. Melinda Byrd seconded the motion, which was
carried by a unanimous vote.
V. NEW BUSINESS
A. CVA DATELINE
Kristy Kneiding described the content of the Dateline published by
the CVA. The Dateline is sent out for media purposes only. Ms.
Kneiding asked the Committee members if they would like the
Dateline in their agenda packets each month. The Committee was
in agreement with the inclusion of the Dateline in the agenda
packets.
VI. OLD BUSINESS
A. WEBSITE DESIGN
Ms. Kneiding presented the final design of the website to the
Committee via the laptop and overhead screen. Ms. Kneiding went
through the site pointing out new and updated information. Rick
Darius liked the more contemporary look, well organized and
visually appealing. Council member Benson suggested a sample
itinerary for a weekend stay. Ms. Kneiding said the website will be
live in October and encouraged the Committee to go through the
site.
Motion was made by Norine Bowen to approve the website design.
Motion seconded by Melinda Byrd, which was carried by a
unanimous vote.
VII. REPORT ON CITY COUNCIL ACTION (S)
Council member Benson said the City Council approved the design
for the Community Center.
VIII. REPORTS AND REMARKS
A. Chair
Ray Rodriguez announced the 50th Anniversary of the Palm Desert
Chamber of Commerce. The party will be at The Living Desert on
October 2, 2004.

C. Staff
1. ATHENA Award — Norine Bowen and Deborah McGarrey
Council member Benson congratulated Norine Bowen for
being the recipient of the 2004 Entrepreneurial ATHENA
Award and Deborah McGarrey as the recipient of the 2004
Corporate Athena Award. The ATHENA Awards luncheon is
scheduled for October 27, 2004, at Desert Willow.
Piper Close passed around the September issue of Palm Springs
Life. She asked that the Committee look at the City's four-part ad
campaign in the magazine.
2. Ernst & Young Entrepreneurial Awards
3. Table Top Book
Ms. Close met with Ms. Kneiding, Ms. Bird, and Ms. Gilligan
on ways to promote the City with the Ernst & Young event.
The City will present the Table Top Book to each person
involved with the Ernst & Young Entrepreneurial Awards.
The book will have a special wrap specific to Ernst & Young,
welcoming them to the City and inviting them to take a copy
of the book home.

6. Dining Guide
Ms. Piper said the information for these three pieces is being
pulled together. There is a great deal of research currently
being done.
Ms. Kneiding informed the Committee about the new Courtesy Cart
Program on El Paseo. There are two Lido 7-seat passenger golf
carts that take shoppers to wherever they want to go along El Paseo.
Ms. Kneiding passed out a copy of the Palm Desert Promise choices.
She asked that the Committee take the copy with them to look over.
The Palm Desert Promise will be on the October agenda for
discussion.

Donna Gomez said Mark Talboys, Chairman of the Palm Desert
Sister Cities Committee, has been attending the Marketing
Committee meetings to learn about ways in which to promote the
Sister Cities Program. Ms. Gomez is also the staff administrator for
the Sister Cities Committee.
Ms. Gomez announced that the ground breaking for the construction
of the Visitor Center is scheduled for October 1, 2004.

2. Gary Sherwin updated the Committee on CVA activities.
X. ADJOURNMENT
Chairman Rodriguez adjourned the meeting at 3:55 p.m.
