HomeMy WebLinkAboutC23510-K Tall Man Productions - 2005 Summer of FunCITY OF PALM DESERT COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT STAFF REPORT REQUEST: APPROVAL OF 2005 "SUMMER OF FUN" SCHEDULE AMENDMENT DATE: APRIL 28, 2005 RECOMMENDATION: By Minute Motion, approve Contract No. C23510K with Tall Man Productions in the amount of $6,000 and authorize the Mayor to execute same. Funds are available in account 110-4416-414-3061, and no appropriation is needed or requested. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Due to a previously booked artist's refusal to accept specific terms of the City of Palm Desert's Performing Arts Agreement, it is necessary to schedule another artist for the June 16, 2005, "Summer of Fun" concert. BACKGROUND: The City Council -approved lineup for the 2005 "Summer of Fun" called for a Polynesian Review to be performed on June 16, 2005. When the artist returned the City of Palm Desert's Performing Arts Agreement, it had been altered in a manner that was not acceptable to the City. Therefore, it is necessary to fill that date with another performance. The Ira B. Liss Big Band Jazz Machine from San Diego has been contacted and is willing and able to fill that date. Staff has worked with this group in the past and has found that this 18 piece big band orchestra is very popular with the audience and presents a very engaging show. Therefore, staff recommends that the City Council approve a contract with Tall Man Productions, in the amount of $6,000, to perform at the 2005 "Summer of Fun" series on June 16, 2005.
