Ortega, City Manager From: Sheila R. Gilligan, Assistant City Manager for Community Services Subject: Increased Patrol in Civic Center Park Date: August 5, 2005 At your direction, I have met with Lt. Steve Thetford and Parks & Recreation Services Manager Janis Steele to discuss park patrol issues such as vandalism, criminal activity, vagrancy, etc. Staff has met with representatives of the Coachella Valley Recreation and Park District (CVRPD) to discuss these issues as well. The following measures have been or will be implemented: • Park patrol has been increased from one to two people on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings. • CVRPD has instituted a log for the park patrol, skate attendants, and community center attendants to record any problems, suspicious activity, descriptions of individuals and vehicles, etc.; it will be discussed weekly by CVRPD and City staff, and information will be forwarded to the appropriate individuals (City Manager, Palm Desert Police Department, etc.) as necessary. • City staff, CVRPD, and the Palm Desert Police Department will meet as needed to share information and discuss park issues so as to continue providing quality and safe service to the citizens of Palm Desert. • A meeting has been scheduled for August 30, 2005, for Lt. Thetford and Janis Steele to meet with staff at CVRPD to discuss coordination of responsibilities. Councilman Bob Spiegel asked for an update on this, and I have given him a verbal report. He seemed pleased with the progress to date. SHEILA R. GILLIGAN, ACM,,,,61" COMMUNITY SERVICES DIVISION SRG:mpg cc: Janis Steele, Parks & Recreation Services Manager Lt.
