HomeMy WebLinkAboutOut-of-State Travel - 82nd Annual National LeagueREQUEST: DATE: CONTENTS: Recommendation: CITY OF PALM DESERT COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT STAFF REPORT APPROVAL OF OUT OF STATE TRAVEL August 25, 2005 82ND ANNUAL NATIONAL LEAGUE OF CITIES CONGRESS OF CITIES AND EXPOSITION By Minute Motion, approve out-of-state travel for Palm Desert's Senior Management Analyst/Community Services and a member of the Palm Desert Youth Committee to attend the 82nd Annual National League of Cities Congress of Cities and Exposition, which is scheduled to be held in Charlotte, North Carolina, December 6-10, 2005. Funds are available in fiscal year 2005/06 account 110-4210-422-3061 to cover registration, airfare, accommodations and other incidental expenses associated with attendance at this event and no appropriation is needed or requested. Executive Summary: Approval of this request will permit a member of the Palm Desert Youth Committee and the Senior Management Analyst/Community Services to attend and participate in the 82nd Annual National League of Cities Congress of Cities and Exposition. Background: In order to expose members of the Palm Desert Youth Committee to various programs and projects that are being implemented throughout the State, for the past several years Committee representatives have attending the League of California Cities annual conference. During this same period of time the City has been expanding its involvement with the National League of Cities and its family and youth programs and NLC staff has suggested that its Congress of Cities and Exposition would provide an excellent opportunity to expose youth delegates to a more expanded and comprehensive experience through the programs it presents at this conference. In order to expose members of the Youth Committee to the types of youth programs and projects throughout the nation as presented by the NLC, staff is recommending that one selected representative of the Palm Desert Youth Committee and the Senior Management Analyst/Community Services, who will act as chaperone, be authorized to attend this conference, which is scheduled to be held December 6-10, 2005, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Funds are available in fiscal year 2005/06 account 110-4210-422-3061 to cover registration, airfare, accommodations and other incidental expenses associated with attendance at this event and no appropriation is needed or requested.
