Background Material RECOMMENDATION By Minute Motion: AUTHORIZE Staff to negotiate Change Order No. 4, not to exceed $47,602.23, to Commercial Diversified, Inc. (Twentynine Palms, CA), for installation of an emergency generator and transfer switch at Fire Station No. 67. BACKGROUND On March 10, 2005, the City Council awarded the Mesa View Fire Station Renovation Project to Commercial Diversified, Inc. (Twentynine Palms, CA) in the amount of $1,395,000, plus a 10% contingency. Please note that the Council previously ratified or is considering Change Orders No. 1, 2, and 3 for a combined total of $11,742.05. Change Order Number 4 is in the amount of $47,602.23. This change order is to accommodate the installation of a new Onan 50KW emergency generator and transfer switch at the station. This device was not included in the original bid from the contractor. The previous generator outlived its intended longevity and was no longer reliable. As fire stations are essential facilities, a new generator is imperative to ensure continuity of fire and medical response during a loss of power. Staff sought competitive bids for this item; however, no bids were received. If the City Council approves Staffs recommendation, there will be $80,155.72 remaining in the contingency fund for this project.
