1. Allocate $7,000 from Park Maintenance Account No. 110-4611-
453.3320.
2. Approve Change Order No. 2 to Contract C23620 with Steven Burt
& Associates (Bermuda Dunes, CA) in the amount of $1,000 per month
for seven months for landscape maintenance services at Washington
Charter School.
Discussion:
In May 2005, The City opened bids for landscape maintenance services for Area 3, City
Parks. Steven Burt & Associates was awarded the contract on May 26, 2005. As of
October 15, 2005, the City of Palm Desert became responsible for maintaining a portion
of open space located at Washington Charter School. This will be used as a park facility
during non-school hours. This agreement was made with Desert Sands Unified School
District in a Joint Use agreement dated June 12, 2003. This maintenance agreement

was not included in the original contract for Area 3. Steven Burt and Associates has
provided staff with a proposal to maintain the open space at Washington Charter School
as an amendment to Contract C23620, Landscape Maintenance Area 3.
Steven Burt and Associates proposal to amend Contract C23620 to include Washington
Charter School totals $1,000 per month for the remainder of the 2005-06 fiscal year.
The cost for this service is consistent with similar services already provided by Steven
Burt and Associates in parks that are comparable in size and level of service.
At this time, there are funds available in the Park Maintenance Account No. 110-4611-
453.3320.
Staff recommends that the Mayor and City Council approve Change Order No. 2 to
Contract No. C23620 with Steven Burt and Associates, Inc., in the amount of $ 7,000 for
the maintenance of Washington Charter School.
