SUBMITTED BY: Donna Gomez, Visitor Center Manager DATE: December 8, 2005 RECOMMENDATION: By Minute Motion, approve out-of-state travel for the Visitor Center Managerto attend the Oasis Gift Show in Phoenix, Arizona, January 6-8, 2006. BACKGROUND: The Palm Desert Visitor Center provides not only a variety of services to visitors and residents, it also offers souvenir and clothing items that promote and represent Palm Desert. This retail operation has experienced consistent growth over the years and has most recently, since opening the new Visitor Center, seen an average monthly increase of 100% over last year. In order to keep current with trends in souvenir and gift ideas, it is important that the Visitor Center Manager attend shows that present new ideas and opportunities for merchandising. The Oasis Gift Show in Phoenix specifically targets vendors that focus on desert oriented products and is open only to wholesale buyers. Additionally, this show was highly recommended by a current vendor utilized by Visitor Center staff. The Oasis Gift Show is being held January 6-8, 2006. Expenses would include a two -night stay in Phoenix, ground transportation, meals, and show registratio . Advanced On-line Buyer Registration begins August 15th Advanced On-line buyer registration for the January 6 - 8, 2006 OASIS Gift Show is easy and beg August 15th. Buyers may also request information by telephone or e-mail and an advanc registration form will be mailed with additional show information. To register in advance, all buy must provide a copy of their state sales tax reporting license for an industry -related business as c of their two required company credentials in addition to the other requirements outlined below. buyers must present appropriate business and employee identification to attend the OASIS Gift Sh as a professional buyer. Each employee must also present individual employment identification fr their company to attend. OASIS will begin mailing buyer badges on Tuesday, November 8, 2005. Please note, buyers must register for each show to receive badges. However, registration is required to remain on the OASIS mailing list. Once advanced On-line buyer registration closes, on December 16th, buyers can still register with necessary credentials at the show site. On -site Registration Buyer Registration opens at 8:30 a.m. daily (January 6 - 8, 2006). On -site Buyer Registration close! at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 8th. Yellow Pages business listing • Store or commercial lease with the type of business indicated on the document • Photograph of your store front • Mail Order Companies must provide actual printed catalog • Manufacturers' representatives (multi -line only) must provide a list of lines currently being handled including their contact information • Wholesalers, importers, and exporters must provide samples of brochures or catalogs that demonstrate current product selection and inventory EMPLOYEE Identification You must present a copy of at least ONE of any of the following for each attending employee: • W-2 form • Permanent employee I.D. • Cancelled company payroll check or paycheck stub • Company insurance card • Company credit card with both employee and company name • Business cards are NOT accepted as credentials OASIS, Inc. reserves the right to request additional business identification if deemed necessary or to deny access to the show. Buyer Highlights . Averaging 500 exhibitors each show with thousands of different national, international and loc product lines. . The Phoenix Civic Plaza, in Phoenix, AZ, has approximately 1,000 booths, all located on one convenient level. . Artisans' Showcase is a juried exhibit that features hand made, limited edition, one -of -a -kind, studio produced gifts with on -site purchase availability. • Main Floor of the show is order -writing only. • Free coat and bag check. • Fill your store with merchandise from artisans, global importers, manufacturers, sales representatives and Native American artists. . IMPORTANT NOTICES: OASIS Non -buying Guest Policy We highly discourage guests attending the show. However, non -buying guest badges are availat Guests must register with their buyer. The guest fee is $50.00 per person with a limit of t, guests per buying company. While on the show floor, guests must wear their badges and rem with their buyers at all times. During show days, children under the age of 14 years are not permitted on the show flo, OASIS does not provide childcare at show site. Mother's or responsible guardian's who have infants in a front carry pack are permitted, however the infant must remain in the pack while on the show floor. If the infant needs to be taken from the pack, you must proceed to the lobby area. The Show Floor Artisans' Showcase is located in the Ballroom and Gifts 2 Go is located in the Yuma Room.
