REQUEST: Approval for Out-of-State Travel to Attend the Risk and Insurance
Managers Association (RIMS) Annual Conference in Honolulu,
Hawaii, on April 23-27, 2006.

Recommendation:
By Minute Motion: Approval for the Risk Manager to travel to Honolulu,
Hawaii, to attend the RIMS Annual Conference. Funds are available in the
Development Services budget Account No.110-4260-422.31-20.
Discussion:
The Risk Manager, who was elected President of the Inland Empire RIMS Chapter in June
2005, is scheduled to be a presenter of an educational seminar at the National RIMS
Annual Conference to be held in Honolulu, Hawaii in April 2006. The title of the
presentation is “Contractual Risk Transfer–Who’s On First,” which covers the issues
involved in transferring liability and other significant risks to contractors for a wide range of
projects. One of the requirements of each RIMS Chapter is to sponsor and organize
seminars to present at the National RIMS Annual Conference, and the Chapter President
is traditionally asked to be one of the presenters at the chapter’s seminar at the
conference. The Risk Manager did not know this at the time the travel budget was
prepared last spring. The Risk Manager also did not know he would be elected Chapter
President at the time the budget was prepared.

The total travel budget for the trip is expected not to exceed $2,200 for airfare, hotel, and
meals. The conference registration fee of $795 is the “early bird” rate, which increases to
$895 after February 25, 2006. The total travel cost and conference fees are $2,995.
Funds are available in Development Services budget Account No. 110-4260-422.31-20.
