Approve Change Order No. 1 to Contract No. C23670A for Landscape Architecture Services to David Volz Design, of Fountain Valley, California for Fred Waring Drive Widening Soundwall Aesthetic Treatment, in the amount of $29,000. 2. Move $3,300 from contingency to base. 3. Authorize the Mayor to execute the change order. Discussion: On May 26, 2005 City Council approved Contract No. C23670A with David Volz Design for the design of the soundwall aesthetic treatment for incorporation into the construction documents of the Fred Waring Drive Soundwall Project, in the amount of $33,000 plus a 10% contingency. David Voltz was originally hired to design the architectural treatment of the soundwalls because there was not sufficient right-of-way to safely accommodate and maintain parkway landscaping along Fred Waring Drive between California Approve Change Order No. 1 to C23670A Page 2 of 2 December 8, 2005 Avenue and Tennessee Avenue. Therefore, the soundwall design provides for the use of an architecturally enhanced double-wall design that will provide an attractive soundwall appearance. In February, 2005 the Landscape Beautification Committee approved the soundwall aesthetic treatment. In addition, David Voltz is being retained to design the aesthetic treatment of the soundwalls at the Desert Breezes and Waring Court communities. These architectural treatments will also be presented to the Landscape and Beautification Committee for their approval. The attached proposal from David Volz Design outlines the cost of this additional scope of work which includes architectural treatment design, preparation of plans and specifications, and construction support. Funds are available in the Fred Waring Drive widening project account. Therefore, staff recommends that City Council, by minute motion, approve Change Order No. 1 to Contract No. C23670A, with David Volz Design for the design of the aesthetic treatment of the Fred Waring Drive Soundwall (Project 654-01) in the amount of $29,Q00, authorize moving $3,300 of contingency to base, and authorize the Mayor to execute the change order.
