CONTINUED BUSINESS None. VII. OLD BUSINESS A. STATUS REPORT ON THE COMMUNITY MURAL PROJECT. Public Arts Manager Richard Twedt introduced himself to the Committee. He said the AIPP Commission met this morning and prioritized the two remaining proposals for the Library mural. One artist had dropped out of the competition, leaving two finalists. He said AIPP gave Susan Smith - Evans' mural the highest priority and Jeff Whipple is second. Member Kermode felt Susan Smith -Evans' renderings were too busy. She preferred the work by Jeff Whipple. Member Manor asked if AIPP had any suggestions regarding the murals. Mr. Twedt said they did not. She suggested that the performers not be the prominent elements in the mural. Ms. Ziegler commented that Ms. Smith -Evans drew from photographs in the Library's archives. Councilmember Benson suggested that fact cards be made and placed by the mural after it's installed so visitors would know the history of the renderings therein. Member Kermode felt Mr. Whipple's mural had a gentler and softer feel to it and was more aesthetically pleasing to her. Ms. Klassen said the recommendation by the Library Promotion Committee would be forwarded to the City Council for final approval. Motion by Member Manor to prioritize the mural by Susan Smith - Evans with the following modifications: relocate the storyteller to a Tess prominent position in the mural and replace with another figure. Seconded by Joan Beasley. Motion carried 2-1, with Member Kermode voting no. Minutes 9-15-04.doc LIBRARY PROMOTION COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES September 15, 2004 Page 3 VIII. REPORTS AND REMARKS A.
