PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
STAFF REPORT
Informational Item Concerning the Federal Emergency
Management Agency (FEMA) Disaster Assistance
Gary Rosenblum, Risk Manager
February 24, 2005
Discussion:
The State and County Office of Emergency Services (OES) are starting a series of
meetings to assist public agencies that are seeking FEMA reimbursement for recent
floodwater damage response and recovery costs. These meetings are being widely
promoted by Riverside County OES, and may also receive public attention because the
current status of FEMA reimbursement is that it will not include private entities and
individuals.
Palm Desert incurred no significant damage or unusual costs related to the recent flood
events. Therefore, the City will not seek FEMA reimbursement and will not need to
participate in the meetings.
