HomeMy WebLinkAboutDesert Breezes HOA - Cost Estimate for Wall ConstructionCITY OF PALM DESERT PUBLIC WORKS INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM To: Honorable Mayor and Honorable City Council Members From: Michael Errante, P.E., Director of Public Work Date: June 3, 2005 Subject: Cost Estimate for Wall Constructions at Desert Breezes Referring to the attached "Wall Construction Estimates" table, Option 1 represents the cost of the wall west of the entrance to Desert Breezes off Fred Waring Drive that was identified as needing mitigation in the noise study. This wall is approximately 1,180 lineal feet and was designed at a height of 8 to 10 feet. The wall was to be built with a stucco finish to match the original wall. The estimated cost for this wall is $440,000 (see attached spread sheet for cost breakdown). Option 2 represents the additional cost to construct the wall east of the entrance to Desert Breezes. This wall was not identified on the noise study for mitigation but the residents were inadvertently told that this wall section would be built. The estimated cost for this wall with a stucco finish is $350,000 (see attached spread sheet for cost breakdown). Option 3 represents the cost to construct both east and west walls with a stucco finish and at a slightly lower height (by approximately 1 to 1.5 feet). Lowering the wall would save approximately $35,000 to $40,000 over the entire length of both walls. The estimated cost for this option is $750,000. Option 4 represents the cost to construct both east and west walls with a split - face block, 8 to 9 feet high, and stone pilasters spaced at about 75 feet part. The estimated cost for this option is $765,000. Option 5 is to leave the existing walls in place, overlay the road with rubberized asphalt, which is part of the scope of work, and perform a new sound study to verify if the new asphalt roadway reduces the noise to meet the mitigated levels.
