ADMINISTRATIVE CONFERENCE ROOM ************************************************************ I. CALL TO ORDER Vice Chair Erika McQuillen called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m. II. ROLL CALL Present Daniel Batalles Tarah Fenlon Erika McQuillen, Vice Chair Elliot Smith Nicholas Talboys Absent Nicholas Asbury Kayleigh Hyde Michele Stein Others Present Christina Sun Samantha Cortese Staff Present Pat Scully, Senior Management Analyst PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE PRELIMINARY MINUTES OF THE MAY 3, 2005, MEETING PAGE 2 Ill. CONSENT CALENDAR A. Approval of the April 5, 2005, meeting minutes Upon a motion by Member Nick Talboys and second by Member Tarah Fenelon, the Minutes of the April 5, 2005, Youth Committee meeting were approved as presented. Motion carried by unanimous vote. IV. NEW BUSINESS A. Summer Meeting Schedule/Summer Activities After extensive discussion, it was decided that the Committee would participate in Palm Desert's "Summer of Fun" concert series by handing out fans, giving directions, providing general information, etc. to concert attendees. Vice Chair McQuillen requested that Pat Scully send the membership a schedule of the concert dates with a request that members contact her to let her know which dates they will assist. The June meeting will be rescheduled to Monday, June 6th to accommodate the seniors' schedule. Dinner will be catered by City Wok at the beginning of the meeting. Member Talboys suggested that it might be beneficial to meet over the summer so that fall activities can be implemented by September. Ms. Scully was asked to agendize a summer meeting schedule, as well as a possible all day "brainstorming" meeting for discussion at the June meeting. V. CONTINUED BUSINESS None VI. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS A, City Council Action Minutes Ms. Scully inquired if any members had questions on the City Council meeting minutes that were included in the agenda packets. No questions were posed. B. Committee Resignations Ms. Scully reminded those members who will be resigning due to relocation to attend college to submit a written resignation to the City Council so that the vacated position can be filled. C. Youth Programs Ms. Scully inquired and the consensus of the Committee was that they would like to have an opportunity to review potential programs before any brainstorming sessions are held. Ms. Scully will include the list with the June agenda to provide the Committee time to review it for discussion at the June meeting. Member Daniel Batalles suggested that the Youth Committee develop and sponsor some type of fund raising activity next year that would benefit a local charity. His idea was met with great enthusiasm. Member Batalles requested that Ms. Scully agendize the issue for the June meeting. D. New Member Appointments Ms. Scully reminded the Committee that applications for new members will be accepted through August 31 st. Member Elliott Smith inquired and Ms. Scully responded that appointments would be made by the City Council. E. Committee/Commission Annual Party The Committee agreed to have dinner catered at the June meeting to commemorate the first full year of Committee activities. REPORTS AND REMARKS Ms. Scully thanked Christina Sun and Samantha Cortese for their attendance and encouraged them to participate in activities throughout the summer. Vice Chair McQuillen inquired where Trails maps could be obtained. Free maps are available at the Visitor Information Center. IX. ADJOURNMENT Upon a motion by Member Talboys, second by Member Batalles, the meeting was adjourned at 6:55 p.m. Motion carried by unanimous vote.
