The Coalition has reached 98% of the program goals. For Palm Desert the Coalition has visited 199 residential units (including mobile homes and apartments) producing approximately $79,000.00 in service value. The total estimated energy cost savings is $158,082.00. The Coalition team has visited 22 businesses with and estimated service value of $20,163 and energy cost savings of $40,326. The target for this funding cycle was 300 residential units and 30 small businesses. The major tune-ups for one residential ($5,000) and one business ($10,000) have yet to be completed. Other information regarding the PEAK Program in the schools is contained in the report. If you have any questions please let me know. Sincerely, ROBERT KOHN DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL PROGRAMS GNUM 1608 KOHMWORO FILESWEMOLDOC e*NCOMMUNITY 4Fk)e9495Vq N PARTNERSHIP Status Report Community Energy Partnership 5/23/05 With seven months still to go for Partnership activities, the program has already reached a number of its original goals. Please refer to the accompanying chart, "Partner City Activities," for specifics on how each city has contributed to the progress of the Partnership. PEAK Student Energy Actions is over -subscribed, thanks to the enthusiastic reception it received, in particular from Corona/Norco school district. The original goal was to sign up six districts — we now have seven, with over 50 individual schools involved in the program. Over 12,700 students have been introduced to PEAK (over 25,000 will have been introduced before the year is over), and their families have each received a CFL, symbol of the new technology so essential to smart energy management. The CFL continues to play a central role in city and community events, as well. At 35 official city events, the Partnership has distributed over 14,000 bulbs, 2,000 more than were scheduled for the program. More events are already scheduled for the summer months that will likely add several thousand more bulbs to the total. (These CFLs are counted separately from the CFLs distributed as part of PEAK.) The Partnership captures information from each family participating in a distribution event, and over 52% of the families reached are trying the CFL for the very first time. (In some communities that number reaches as high as 95% of the people trying the CFLs for the first time — clearly, as the sole result of the Partnership event!) Other community outreach activities are on track to meet their goals. Tune-ups, kick-started with the arrival of new Operations Manager Russell Flanigan, are moving forward in several cities simultaneously. Rallies are scheduled for June in the three cities where there have been none to date. As of the end of April, 712 residential Tune -Ups had been completed (out of 3,600), and 70 small business Tune -Ups (out of 300). In addition to the interest generated by eleven separate Energy Rallies, many smaller complexes are being solicited directly using doorhangers and flyers, in both English and Spanish. Businesses are being approached using a number of marketing media, including letters from the city, face-to-face visits by student "Energy Surveyors" (in Santa Monica) and through communications from Chambers of Commerce. Other projects associated with the Partnership that are now being focused on: Three Energy Efficiency Demonstration Makeovers are taking shape, in San Bernardino, Palm Desert and Hermosa Beach. Each of the Makeover projects were recommended by their respective cities to meet the Makeover requirements: a "human interest story" that will attract the media, an "energy efficiency opportunity" that will provide kWh and therms of savings, and the prospect of reaching a "continuing audience" once the Makeover work is finished. ■ Municipal energy projects — with the goal of creating a 2.5% savings in municipal energy bills over a five-year period — are in planning stages, as are school district facilities energy projects, with a goal of 5% savings. ■ In the coming months another emphasis will be on linking Edison and Gas Company programs with the Partnership's activities, an emphasis that will tap the synergy between programs and lay a strong foundation for the expansion of the program. As of the end of April, 2005, the Partnership has achieved these savings results: Net annual electricity savings target 15,262,440 kWh Savings to date 11,151,630 kWh Percent of total 73 % Net capacity savings target 4,298 kW Savings to date 2,720 kW Percent of total 63 % Net annual gas savings target 611,280 therms Savings to date 591,259 therms Percent of total 96 % Partnership activities have also reached thousands of participants: Customer Segments PEAK Students Target Participants 12,000 Participants to Date 12,700 Percent of Target 106% 2 PEAK Student CFLs 19,500 15,860 81% PEAK Households 8,000 10,160 127% PEAK School Districts 6 4 67% Municipal Energy Actions 10 5 50% Community Promos - CFLs 12,000 14,350 120% Community Promos - Torchieres 4,000 1,078 27% Mobile Home Retrofits 1,200 292 24% Rental Apartment Retrofits 1,200 1,129 94% Owner Occupied Apt Retrofits 1,200 238 20% Small Business Retrofits 300 167 56% Totals 27,916 27,423 98% 3 CommuNrff Community Energy Partnership www PARTNERSHIP Partner City Activities 5/23/05 Cathedral Hermosa Moreno San Activity Brea City Corona Beach Irvine Valley Palm Desert Bernardino Santa Clarita Santa Monica MOU adopted by Council 5/27/2004 4/27/2004 8/10/2004 5/11/2004 5/26/2004 5/13/2004 4/28/2004 4/27/2004 Activity Planning Session 4/30/2004 5/12/2004 4/26/2004 9/15/2004 4/21/2004 4/26/2004 4/20/2004 4/28/2004 5/3/2004 4/22/2004 Community Kickoff or Stakeholders meeting 12/8/2004 4/22/2005 I 8/9/2004 Employee Awareness (Buck A Bulb, other) 7/2/04; 9117/04 9/30/2004 8/12/20D4 8126/20D4 9/15/2004 9/2/2004 9/8/2004 I 9/8/2004 Residential Tune -Up - First rally 10/4/2004 4/2/2005 2/26/2005 1/12/2005 1/21/2005 4/17/2005 10/2/2004 Energy Rallies held 3 1 1 2 2 1 1 Residential Tune-ups completed (out of 360) 136 200 76 32 92 103 199 55 Small Business Tune - Ups completed (of 30) 3 1 16 13 22 I 15 Developers Ballpark SB Municipal Energy Project Audit?
