Out-of-State Travel to Annual Americans for the Arts Convention June 8-10, 2005
CITY OF PALM DESERT COMMUNITY SERVICES STAFF REPORT REQUEST: APPROVAL FOR OUT-OF-STATE TRAVEL FOR THE ART IN PUBLIC PLACES COORDINATOR TO THE ANNUAL AMERICANS FOR THE ARTS CONVENTION PRECONFERENCE. SUBMITTED BY: RICHARD L. TWEDT, PUBLIC ARTS MANAGER DATE: MARCH 24, 2005 ATTACHMENT: PRECONFERENCE BROCHURE BUDGET Recommendation: By Minute Motion, approve out-of-state travel for the Public Art Coordinator to attend the preconference for the 2005 Americans for the Arts Public Art Convention in Austin, TX from June 8 - June 10, 2005. The funds are available in account number 436-4650-454-3120. Executive Summary: The Americans for the Arts 2005 Annual Convention's preconference "Lay of the Land" Public Art, Politics, and the Environment" is the only conference nationally that is devoted to issues of public art programs. The kind of issues that will be addressed by presenters and panelists are common to all public art programs; learning about solutions to these issues will strengthen the public art program of the City of Palm Desert and the Art in Public Places Commission. The preconference also offers a unique opportunity to network with other members of the public art field.
