HomeMy WebLinkAboutVendor Service Approval for Technology Service 03/24/2005CITY OF PALM DESERT INFORMATION SYSTEMS STAFF REPORT REQUEST: VENDOR SERVICE APPROVAL FOR TECHNOLOGY SERVICE SUBMITTED BY: DOUG VAN GELDER, INFORMATION SYSTEMS MANAGER DATE: MARCH 24, 2005 CONTENTS: VENDOR LIST Recommendation: By Minute Motion, approve the use of vendors on the attached list for technology services. Discussion: Updating computer software and maintenance support is essential to maintaining quality performance of the City's existing software. If the software were not maintained or updated, data could be lost, become unreliable or be unusable. Various departments depend upon services or data provided by the existing equipment and software of the entities on the vendor list. The current equipment and software is performing as expected. New software or equipment could be purchased at a greater cost than the City could spend by updating and maintaining the equipment and software it has now. The existing software and equipment was acquired through the competitive bidding process. The vendors listed provide proprietary technology for their particular type of existing software or equipment. The Information Systems department requests that these companies be considered exempt from competitive bidding under the City's purchasing policies and procedures because of this.
