RECOMMENDATION
By Minute Motion:
Approve Change Order No. 2 in the amount of $5,865.00 to Commercial
Diversified, Inc. (Twentynine Palms, CA), for roof modifications associated with
the Fire Station No. 67 Renovation Project.
BACKGROUND
On March 10, 2005, the City Council awarded the Mesa View Fire Station Renovation
Project to Commercial Diversified, Inc. (Twentynine Palms, CA) in the amount of
$1,395,000, plus a 10% contingency. Please note that the Council previously ratified
Change Order No. 1 in the amount of $3,410.81.
Change Order Number 2 is in the amount of $5,865.00. This change order is to
accommodate roof modifications recommended after the award of bid to Commercial
Diversified. Several months prior to the bid award, the City's Building Maintenance
Division installed a single ply roofing system, in certain areas, to mitigate existing water
leaks.
The original roof designed called for a foam roof; however, Staff recommends a single ply
system for uniformity. Such a system will also provide enhanced waterproofing and overall
is a better roofing material. The total cost of changing to the single ply system is $11,100;
however, a $6,000 credit is applied for the previous foam roof included in the contract,
adjusting the total cost of this change order to $5,865 (includes a 15% mark up).

Per the General Conditions of the Agreement, the Contractor requests an
executed Change Order for the above referenced additional work. To preclude
additional delay to the construction schedule the Contractor is proceeding with

minimum of a 4 week lead time.

Description:
1. Several months prior to the awarding of the contract for this remodel, the Owner had installed a
single ply roofing system over the existing polyurethane roofing system. Therefore, the Owner
wants to replace the specified polyurethane roofing system with a new single ply roofing system
to match the one just installed. This will include a tapered foam underlayment over "dens deck".
