Preliminary Minutes of Public Safety Commission Meeting of October 12, 2005 RECOMMENDATION: By Minute Motion, ratify the City Manager's approval dated September 30, 2005, of an expenditure of $342.45 as requested by Palm Desert Police U. Steve Thetford in his memorandum dated September 28, 2005. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Approval of this request would allow the Palm Desert Police Department to expend $342.45 of the $100,000 Cal COPS Grant for Fiscal Year 2005/06. BACKGROUND: The City of Palm Desert has received $100,000 in Cal COPS (Supplemental Law Enforcement Services Fund) for Fiscal Year 2005/06. These funds were received by the City as a one-time grant to be expended exclusively on front line law enforcement services by providing personnel support, equipment, and programs. On September 28, 2005, Palm Desert Police Lt. Steve Thetford requested that $342.45 of the above mentioned $100,000 be expended to purchase legal research material for Palm Deserts School Resource Officer program. These materials will allow the SRO's to have immediate access to legal materials at the various school site offices. City Manager Carlos Ortega approved this expenditure on September 30, 2005. This legal research material will allow our SRO's to have immediate access to legal materials at their school site offices. Our goal is to provide the best possible service to the City of Palm Desert and to keep the City informed of our efforts to maintain a safe and healthy community. The Palm Desert Police Department is requesting to purchase the above equipment at a total cost of $342.45 out of Cal Cops Funds. (See attached quote).
