DATE: April 13, 2006
CONTENTS: Seminar Description
Recommendation:
By minute motion, authorize out-of-state travel for the Landscape Specialist to
attend the 2006 Landscape Design Conference in Litchfield Park, Arizona
May 5-6, 2006.
Executive Summary:
The 2006 Landscape Design Conference is an opportunity to meet with professionals
involved with different aspects of the horticultural field, particularly with desert -adapted plant
materials. Mountain States Wholesale Nursery is the leader in desert plant development
and research for the desert southwest. Our city has been instrumental in the introduction of
desert plants into our plant palette. By doing so, it has set the standard that has earned
Palm Desert the reputation as an innovative, creative, and cutting -edge city in terms of its
landscape design concepts. This conference will continue the path our city has taken
horticulturally with a first-hand view at the new and upcoming plant species for the desert.
Costs include conference registration, hotel for three nights, mileage for approximately 500
miles, and meals and incidentals. Total cost is approximated at $1,100.00. Funds are
available in Account No. 110-4614-453-3120.
Therefore, staff recommends that City Council authorize out-of-state travel for the
Landscape Specialist to attend the 2006 Landscape Design Conference in Litchfield Park,
Arizona on May 5 and 6, 2006.
