HomeMy WebLinkAboutFirefighters' Recognition EventCITY OF PALM DESERT Community Services Division Staff Report REQUEST: APPROVAL OF REQUEST TO SERVE WINE AT SISTER CITIES FIREFIGHTERS' RECOGNITION EVENT SUBMITTED BY: Patricia Scully, CFEE, Senior Management Analyst DATE: April 27, 2006 RECOMMENDATION: By Minute Motion, permit the consumption of alcoholic beverages on City -owned property in connection with a special event, the Sister Cities Firefighters' Recognition, scheduled to be held at the Palm Desert Civic Center Park on May 10, 2006. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Approval of this request would permit event sponsors to serve wine at barbecue. BACKGROUND: Pursuant to Palm Desert Municipal Code Section 9.58.040, City Council approval is necessary for alcoholic beverages to be served within the Civic Center Park. The Palm Desert Sister Cities Committee is the sponsor of this event and has requested that wine be allowed to be served in a specifically designated area. The City Council will grant, if passed, permission to serve wine at a location to be specified within the Civic Center Park on May 10, 2006. Staff recommends that the City Council permit the consumption of alcoholic beverages pursuant to PDMC Section 9.58.040 for the Firefighters' Recognition barbecue, which is scheduled to be held on City -owned property on May 10, 2006. cc_X ATRICIA SCULLY - Et SENIOR MANAG T ; ALYST 4 HEILA R.
