EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Due to the graduation and relocation to attend college by members of the Palm Desert Youth Committee, vacancies still exist on the Committee. Appointment of the requested individual will fill a vacant position and allow the Committee to move forward with its current activities. BACKGROUND: In 2002, the City of Palm Desert established a Youth Committee to advise the City Council on issues of interest to the younger members of the Palm Desert community. Since that time, Committee members have become involved in activities such as sponsoring the holiday tree lighting ceremony, working with Habitat for Humanity to build affordable residential housing, and sponsoring a Public Safety Day. Due to the graduation from high school and relocation to attend college by members of the Committee, vacancies still exist. Mr. Armstrong has demonstrated an interest in the activities of the Committee as well as an understanding of its function and mission within the City structure. In order to allow the Committee to develop programs for the fall, it would be advantageous to fill this vacant Committee position.
