ADMINISTRATIVE CONFERENCE ROOM ************************************************************ I. CALL TO ORDER Chairman Elliott Smith called the meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. il. Approval of October 4, 2005, meeting minutes Upon a motion by Committee Member Tarah Fenelon and second by Committee Member Samantha Cortese, minutes of the October 4, 2005, meeting were approved by unanimous vote. IV. NEW BUSINESS A. Reappointment To Committee for Calendar Year 2006 Senior Management Analyst Pat Scully inquired of each member if they requested reappointment to the Youth Committee for calendar year 2006 and all replied in the affirmative.: V. CONTINUED BUSINESS A. March 25, 2005, - Public Safety Day Extensive discussion regarding the organization and implementation of Palm Desert Public Safety Day was held. 1. Pancake Breakfast a. Food Supplies - Mrs. Scully will discuss with Battalion Chief Travis Witten b. Food Preparation - Mrs. Scully reminded representatives of the police and fire departments that as many explorers as possible are needed to assist with food preparation and service since this event benefits their programs. She requested that representatives from Citizens On Patrol and the Public Safety Commission inquire if their membership will be able to provide assistance. C. Food Service - See 1 b d. Pavilion Set Up and Clean Up - See 1 b e. Money and Tickets - Mrs. Scully will provide the tickets. members of the Youth Committee will sell and collect them. Hours - The hours for the pancake breakfast will be 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. g. Setup- See lb 2. Public Safety Displays a. Set up of Public Safety Displays - Mrs. Scully requested that representatives of the police and fire departments, the Public Safety Commission, and Citizens On Patrol be prepared to articulate their tenting, seating, and other needs at the January 3, 2006, meeting to enable supplies to be ordered. b. Tenting and Supplies needed - See 2a C. Collateral Material - See 2a d. Hours - It was determined that the hours for the public safety displays and demonstrations will be 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. e. Set Up - Final set up of the park will be done at the January 3, 2006, meeting. f. Lay out of Park - See 2e 4. Activities 1. Police Department a. SWAT Team b. Helicopter C. Traffic Units d. Program Information/Recruiting Booth Mrs. Scully suggested that the Youth Committee could take Polaroid pictures of children at the golf carts and with the posse horses. 5. Advertising Committee Member Cortese volunteered to appear on radio/tv spots as requested. Mrs. Scully will contact the City's Marketing Department for a schedule of proposed advertising and will present at the January 3, 2006, meeting. VI. OLD BUSINESS A. Update on Holiday Tree Lighting Program - November 22, 2005 1. Arrival Time - Mrs. Scully requested that Committee members arrive at Desert Springs Marriott at 4:00 p.m. on the day of the event and meet her in the hotel lobby. PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE NOVEMBER 1, 2005, APPROVED MINUTES PAGE 5 2. Work Location - The Committee will serve refreshments again this year but the location has been moved from the lobby to the colonnade outdoors. 3. Attire - It is requested that the Committee wear a Committee golf shirt with a long sleeve tee shirt or turtle neck underneath. Denim pants are acceptable. Closed toed shoes must be worn. 4. Hours of Operation - Refreshments will be served from 5:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. 5. Tree Lighting - The holiday tree in the lobby will be lit at 7:00 p.m. 6. Fireworks - The fireworks display will take place from 7:05 p.m to 7:10 p.m. VII. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS A, City Council Member Cortese inquired regarding the decision of the City Council with regard to red curbing on Deep Canyon. Minutes of the October 13, 2005, City Council meeting where this issue was addressed at attached to these minutes. B. Shirts Mrs. Scully announced that Committee Members Elle Wohlmuth, Daniel Batalles, and Nick Talboys shirts are ready for pick up. Vill. REPORTS AND REMARKS Mrs. Scully introduced Ryan Sheehy who will be appointed to the Youth Committee by the City Council at its November 10, 2005, meeting. Mrs. Scully collected photo releases from those members of the Committee who returned them. Committee Member Wohlmuth inquired and Mrs.Scully responded that the number of members on the Committe can easily be increased by a simple Council action.
