EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Approval of this request would allow the Palm Desert Chamber of Commerce to produce the 2006 Putt Putt on El Paseo in the manner requested. BACKGROUND: For the past five years, the Palm Desert Chamber of Commerce has sponsored an event entitled, "Putt Putt on El Paseo." The 2006 event is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2006, and it is anticipated it will bring approximately 300 to 400 residents to the street. In association with this event, the Palm Desert Chamber of Commerce has requested use of City streets, use of all three of the City of Palm Desert Courtesy Carts for shuttling event participants, and fee waivers for one Code Compliance Officer and two Police Officers from 6-8 p.m. CITY COUNCIL STAFF REPORT RE: 2006 PUTT PUTT ON EL PASEO SCHEDULED TO BE HELD ON WEDNESDAY, JULY 12, 2006 MAY 11, 2006 Each year this event grows in popularity, and in order to ensure a safe and successful activity, staff recommends approval of the use of City streets, use of all three Courtesy Carts, and fee waivers for one Code Compliance Officer at a cost of $40/hour for three hours ($120), and two off -duty Police Officers at $60/hour for four hours ($480) for a total of $600. This event brings 300-400 residents to the El Paseo district to "putt" within 18 businesses. Electric golf carts, chauffeured by volunteer chamber member drivers, shuttle players from "hole" to "hole." We also hope to use all three of the city's Courtesy Carts for shuttling. Registration will be at The Gardens on El Paseo beginning at 5:30 pm. Putting is from 6:00-8:00 pm. Thereafter, the wrap-up party and awards will be in Tommy Bahama's Tropical Caf e. The Chamber respectfully requests use of city streets and the waiving of fees associated with this event. Further, we request that sufficient police and code compliance officers be available that evening. A paramedic unit should be on standby. We request the use of all three Courtesy Carts and drivers (last year we used two). We will require NO street closures. We will need a police escort as we drive the golf carts across Highway 111 before and after the event. The carts that we provide for shuttling will be equipped with lights and will need temporary operating permits. While most players are shuttled from hole to hole by our shuttles or Courtes Carts, some players bring their own transportation.
