Award fence installation contract at Homme/Adams Park to Griffiths Fence of Indio, California. 2. Allocate an amount not to exceed $12,367.00 from the Homme/Adams Park Fund Account No. 880-0000-239-9100 to complete this project. 3. Authorize the Finance Director to set aside the amount of $1,855.00 as 15% Contingency (use of contingency requires additional action). Executive Summary: Staff is requesting that the City Council award a fence installation contract to Griffiths Fence of Indio, California, in an amount not to exceed $12,367.00. Staff recommends that the palm logs currently serving as a vehicle barrier at Homme/Adams Park be replaced with a split rail fence that will help reduce vehicle intrusion into Homme/Adams Park. Discussion: The current vehicle barrier (palm tree trunks) that protects Homme/Adams Park from vehicle traffic are deteriorating and becoming ineffective (see attached photographs). Staff Report Award of Fence Installation Contract at Homme/Adams Park May 11, 2006 Page 2 of 2 At the Parks and Recreation Commission meeting held on October 5, 2005, Staff was directed to look into a more effective type of barrier to be used at Homme/Adams Park. After various fence options were considered, a split rail type fence was favored as the most aesthetically pleasing and effective for the protection of the natural area at Homme/Adams Park. A Request for Proposal (RFP) to install fencing at Homme/Adams Park was prepared and published in March 2006. Staff received two responses and the results are as follows: 1. Griffiths Fence, Indio, CA 2. Allen Fence, Desert Hot Springs, CA $12,367.00 $20,400.00 Staff recommends that a contract for the installation of the split rail fence be awarded to Griffith Fence of Indio, CA.
