Executive Summary: Approval of staff recommendation will allow the vendor to disassemble and remove the existing partitions in the North Wing of City Hall at no cost to the City in exchange for eight of the existing partition units and accompanying accessories. New partitions for the North Wing were approved for purchase on 24 August 2006 through joint consideration between the Palm Desert City Council and the Palm Desert Redevelopment Agency. There are currently twelve existing partition units, four of which will be saved to furnish the proposed new Office of Energy Management, and eight of which will be used in exchange for services to demolish and remove all twelve units of the existing partition system. Discussion: On 24 August 2006, the City Council in joint consideration with the Palm Desert Redevelopment Agency approved the purchase of new partitions in the North Wing of City Hall. These new partitions will be installed on 10 November 2006. The existing partitions must be disassembled and removed the night prior to the new partition installation date. Staff Report Declaration of Surplus of Property and Authorization of Exchange of Property for Services to Disassemble and Remove Existing Page 2 of 3 September 28, 2006 Desert Resale Office furniture has proposed to disassemble all twelve stations at a cost to the City of $150.00 per station, totaling $1,800. They will waive this fee in exchange for eight of the existing stations that they have valued at $1,200 total. The remaining four stations will be kept in storage for future use in the proposed new Office of Energy Management. In essence, this will be an exchange of eight used partitions units for services to disassemble and remove all twelve partition units. Therefore, staff recommends that the City Council approve the declaration of surplus of property and authorize the exchange of property for services to disassemble and remove existing partitions.
