REQUEST: APPOINTMENT OF PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE MEMBERS

RECOMMENDATION:
By Minute Motion, appoint Kate Hart, Ryan O'Connell, and Abby Sturgeon to the Palm Desert
Youth Committee.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
Due to the recent resignation of Palm Desert Youth Committee members, three vacancies
currently exist. Appointment of the requested individuals to fill these vacant positions will allow
the Committee to move forward with its current and proposed activities.
BACKGROUND:
In 2002, the City of Palm Desert established a Youth Committee to advice the City Council on
issues of interest to the younger members of the Palm Desert community. Since that time,
Committee members have become involved in activities such as sponsoring a Holiday Tree
Lighting Ceremony, working with Habitat for Humanity to build affordable residential housing,
sponsoring a Public Safety Day, and sponsoring a fundraising Jr./Sr. Prom,which benefited the
Joslyn Senior Center. Due to the recent resignations of Elliott Smith, Samantha Cortese, and
Hunter Young, three vacancies currently exist. These three individuals have demonstrated an
interest in the activities of the Committee as well as an understanding of its function an 'ssio �
within the City structure by attending meetings and participating in Committee activities. I ord r •�

Therefore, staff recommends that the City Council appoint Kate Hart, Ryan O'Connel , A b �
Sturgeon as voting members of the Palm Desert Youth Committee effective imme a I t fi I �
