component of high school exit exams, including the use of proper
grammar andpunctuation; and
Whereas, an idea for a game show to test students on the same
information found on these exit exams grew out of a conversation
between Cal State San Bernardino Palm Desert Campus Dean Fred
Jandt and Fern Field; an Emmy-winning television producer and artist -
in -residence at the Campus, about the constant use of badgrammar; and -
Whereas, the First Coachella 'Valley Grammar Bee was held on
Sunday, November 4, 2007, a.ndpitted local -high school students against
their own grasp of grammar in a game show taped on the Campus at the
Indian Wells Theater; and
Whereas, Palm Desert 3-figh School -Junior Ben Rosenblum placed
first in this fast:paced competition, winning a $5,00o scholarship, which
will be doubled if he attends College of the Desert and/or Cal State
'University San Bernardino.
Now, Therefore, I, Richard S. 3c:elly, 3vlayor of the City of Palm
Desert, California, Do Hereby Proclaim Thursday, December 13, 2007, a.s

in the City of Palm Desert in recognition of this major achievement. I
encourage affresidents to thank and congratulate this young man for his
extraordinary effort in the Urammar Bee and his accomplishments in
mastering the English language. 3-le is a role model to his fellow students
