PALM DESERT LIBRARY PROMOTION COMMITTEE
FEBRUARY 21, 2007 ā 3:00 P.M.
ADMINISTRATIVE CONFERENCE ROOM
I. CALL TO ORDER
Chairwoman Beasley called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.

IV. CONSENT CALENDAR
A. MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF JANUARY 17, 2007.
If there is no objection, the Secretary will make the corrections. If there are no
further corrections, the minutes were approved as corrected.
V. NEW BUSINESS
A. REQUEST FOR RECOMMENDATION OF PROPOSED FISCAL YEAR
2007/08 LIBRARY FUND BUDGET
Rachelle Klassen distributed the proposed fiscal year 2007/08 Library
budget document and gave an overview of that document. She
discussed the three new items added to the budget, i.e., Library remain
open until 8 p.m. on Thursday nights, a new dedicated

Receptionist/Library Assistant position, and sound system for community
room. Discussion was held regarding those new items.
Bobbie Rosenberg moved to, by Minute Motion, to approve the FY 2007/08
Library Fund Budget as presented. Motion was seconded by Betty Carapellese and
carried 6-0.

VIII. REPORTS AND REMARKS
A. Council Member Jean Benson
Mayor Pro Tempore Benson reported on a meeting held at the Thousand
Palms Library. She added that the Thousand Palms Library was very
nice, and Art Sampson would be very proud.
She inquired about a bumper sticker with information about a "Homework
Program" that students could access on the Internet and suggested that it
might be good information for the Library's Event brochure.
B. Librarian's Report (Jeannie Kays)
Barbara Bowie gave the Librarian's report and updated the Committee on
the "Hot off the Press" program. She distributed the March 2007
Library's Event brochure.
The Palm Desert Library's new web page was up on the Riverside County
Library's website. The website address: www.rivliv.com.
C. Event and Volunteer Coordinator's Report (Mary Arnold)
None
D. Budget Review Group (Ella Manor/Betty Carapellese)
None
E. Friends of the Palm Desert Library (Joan Beasley)
Joan Beasley reported that the display table for the "Hot off the Press"
books was ordered.

The Friends have a $12,000 grant to be used for senior materials, i.e.,
books on tape and large print books. These items were being ordered as
well as items for the Teen Program at the Library.
F Committee Chair (Louise Kermode)
Ms. Kermode inquired about the appointment of Library Committee
members. Ms. Klassen responded that she had not received any
applications. She added that applications would be given to the City
Council members for review prior to appointment.
G. Committee Members
Lawrence Guzzetta commented on the table that was purchased for the
"Hot off the Press" book display. He was pleased that it was not an
ordinary table, but a beautiful piece of furniture.
Ms. Carapellese invited Committee members to visit the, beautifully
designed and state of the art, Coachella Valley Animal Shelter.
