CONSENT CALENDAR � a� w `� w v� n � -�+� A. � ��� �� Z � � � � APPROVAL OF THE SEPTEMBER 26, 2006, MEETING MINUTES Upon a motion by Member Ryan Sheehy and second by Member Raine Armstrong, minutes of the September 26, 2006, and October 3, 2006, meeting minutes were approved. Motion carried by unanimous vote. IV. NEW BUSINESS A. AFFILIATION WITH VALLEY WIDE YOUTH COMMITTEE ACTIVITIES — ORAL REPORT BY PATRICIA SCULLY PAT SCULLY presented a brief review of her meeting with Elizabeth Romero from Supervisor Roy Wilson's office regarding the possibility of a joint activity among the appointed youth representatives in the Coachella Valley. Upon a motion by Chairman Smith and second by Member Armstrong, Ms. Scully was directed to contact appropriate individuals and request that a presentation be made at the December Youth Committee meeting regarding proposed activities. Motion carried by unanimous vote. APPROVED MINUTES PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE NOVEMBER 7, 2006 V. CONTINUED BUSINESS A. JR/SR PROM Member Armstrong reported that February 3, from 5 — 8 p.m. has been confirmed for the Jr./Sr Prom at Palm Desert High School Gymnasium. 1. Tickets Ms. Scully reported that City staff was working on the tickets and a flyer. 2. Facilities Member Armstrong presented Ms. Scully with a list of items that need to be rented. They will work together in the next month to secure the items. 3. Decorations Member Samantha Cortese will meet with Ms. Scully next month to order the decorations previously approved. 4. Refreshments Member Elle Wohlmuth volunteered to work on sign ups to man the refreshment stands. She will prepare a list to present at December's meeting. 5. Music Member Kevin Frances reported that the Ted Hermann Band has been secured. It is a 15 or 16 member instrumental group with Sarah Swain performing at the vocalist. 6. Set Up/Clean Up Member Armstrong reported that ASB would help with set up and clean up. 7. Other None VI. OLD BUSINESS None 2 APPROVED MINUTES PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE NOVEMBER 7, 2006 VII. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS A. CITY COUNCiL ISSUES 1. Tobacco Licensing Ordinance Ms. Scully reported that the Council adopted the Committee's recommendation with regard to the Tobacco Licensing Ordinance at its last meeti�g. � VIII. REPORTS AND REMARKS A. COMMITTEE MEMBERS Member Sheehy inquired and Ms. Scully responded that by law, City staff must notify Council appointed Committee members of Ethics Training. Attendance by Youth Committee members is not required. B. STAFF 1. Youth Committee membership/participation Ms. Scully reported that while Committee membership is at its full complement at the present time, alternates are encouraged to attend meetings and participate in Youth Committee activities. As openings occur, the Committee will be charged with interviewing potential candidates. In the near future, Ms. Scully will develop a formula for appointment, which would weighted in favor of committee interviews, attendance and participation. 2. City of Pa1m Desert Wreath Lighting Ms. Scully reported that the City of Palm Desert would hold its first annual wreath lighting ceremony Friday, December 1 from 5:30 — 7:30 p.m. at the Visitor Information Center. While attendance is certainly invited, no specific assignments would be made to Youth Committee members. 3. December Meeting Ms. Scully reported that she would prepare a holiday party for the December meeting and requested that everyone arrive as close to 5:30 p.m. as possible, so that the meeting can begin promptly at 6 p.m. 3 APPROVED MINUTES PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE NOVEMBER 7, 2006 IX.
