HomeMy WebLinkAboutRemodel of City Council OfficesCITY OF PALM DESERT STAFF REPORT REQUEST: AUTHORIZE APPROPRIATION OF $28,500 FROM THE CITY'S UNOBLIGATED FUNDS FOR THE REMODEL OF THE CITY COUNCIL OFFICES AREA SUBMITTED BY: MISSY WIGHTMAN, PROJECT COORDINATOR DATE: JUNE 14, 2007 Recommendation: By Minute Motion, that the City Council authorize the appropriation of $28,500 from the City's unobligated funds to Account No. 110-4159-415-4040. Discussion: At the May 24, 2007 City Council meeting, the new office furnishings for the City Council offices area were approved for purchase. There is currently an approximate lead-time of 5-6 weeks before the furnishings will be delivered and installed. The appropriation of the $28,500 would allow other needed improvements such as painting, carpet, seating, blinds, shelving/ storage, and other miscellaneous items to move forward concurrently with the office furniture. The budgeted amount of $28,500 takes advantage of many government discounts, which gives up to 60% off of many list prices. Staff is recommending appropriation as required for the estimated budget to procure and complete the proposed project. Sample color choices and materials will be reviewed after funding is appropriated. The designs, colors, and patterns will then require Council Member approval before any items are procured. Therefore, staff recommends that the City Council approve the appropriation of $28,500 for these purchases.
