HomeMy WebLinkAboutBeverage Container Fund Request - FY 2007/08CITY OF PALM DESERT COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT STAFF REPORT wa REQUEST: Authorize staff to submit FY 2007/08 City/County Beverage Crigti er Fund Request to the Department of Conservation A SUBMITTED BY: Frankie Riddle, Director of Special Programs DATE: June 14, 2007 CONTENTS: City/County Funding Request Form for FY 2007/08 RECOMMENDATION: By Minute Motion, • z 0 H H U (1) Authorize staff to submit the City/County Fund Request Form for FY 2007/08 to the Department of Conservation in the amount of $13,166.00; and (2) Authorize the expenditure of said funds towards City recycling programs from Account No. 236-4195-454-3090. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The City of Palm Desert will receive $13,166.00 for FY 2007/08 from the Department of Conversation's (DOC) Division of Recycling. These funds will be utilized to implement or expand various recycling programs (e.g., multi -family recycling program, free commercial recycling program, purchase of recycling containers, etc.) throughout the City. This program will directly benefit the City's diversion rate and program implementation aspect of the AB939 mandate. Funds have already been set aside within the Recycling Account for various programs/projects related to the City's recycling efforts. DISCUSSION: The City/County Funding Request is an annual allocation that is applied for by cities and counties. The Department of Conservation now processes application forms on-line, with Council approval, staff will submit application. The deadline for submittal is June 30, 2007.
