Discussion: The Fred Waring Drive Widening Phase II project involves roadway improvements to provide a continuous, six -lane, all-weather route from California Avenue to Washington Street. It includes the widening of the northerly right-of-way of Fred Waring Drive from California Avenue to Elkhorn Trail, adding a westbound designated right -turn lane at the intersection of Warner Trail and Fred Waring Drive, installing two new traffic signals at the intersections of California Avenue and Fred Waring Drive and Entrada Las Brisas and Fred Waring Drive, and constructing new medians from California Avenue to Washington Street. The widening of Fred Waring Drive requires the construction of a sound wall on the north side of Fred Waring Drive from California Avenue to Elkhorn Trail and from Warner Trail to Washington Street. On June 8, 2006, City Council awarded the construction contract to Sukut construction, Inc. to construct the sound walls. The sound wall project is nearing completion and the design of the widening project is complete. Ratify CM Authorization to Call for Bids FWD Widening Ph. II 655-01 Page 2 of 2 June 14, 2007 Staff recommends that City Council, by minute motion, ratify the City Manager's authorization to advertise and solicit bids for the construction of the Fred Waring Drive Widening Phase II from California Avenue to Washington Street (Project 655-01).
