Preliminary Minutes from the June 13, 2007, Public Safety Commission Meeting Recommendation: By Minute Motion, concur with the Palm Desert Police Department's proposal to accept approximately $16,956.00 in Edward Byrne Memorial - Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Funds for Fiscal Year 2007/08 to fund the purchase of two (2) Segway Electronic Personal Assistive Mobility Devices for Palm Desert's two School Resource Officers and thirty (30) digital recorders to be used by field personnel to document interviews and contacts through criminal investigations at the patrol level. Discussion: The Palm Desert Police Department is seeking approval of Edward Byrne Memorial - Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) funds in the amount of $16,956.00 for the purchase of Segways for the School Resource Officers and digital records to be used by field personnel at the patrol level. Attached is a memorandum from Lt. Frank Taylor outlining the grant and how it will be used. At its meeting of June 13, 2007, the Public Safety Commission considered this request and recommended that the Palm Desert City Council concur with the Police Department's proposal to accept these funds for the above -mentioned use. The Preliminary Minutes from the meeting are attached. CITY COUNCIL STAFF REPORT JUNE 14, 2007 RE: CONSIDERATION OF PALM DESERT POLICE DEPARTMENT REQUEST FOR APPROVAL OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT (JAG) FUNDING PROPOSAL FOR FISCAL YEAR 2007/08 FOR THE PURCHASE OF TWO (2) SEGWAY ELECTRONIC PERSONAL ASSISTIVE MOBILITY DEVICES AND THIRTY (30) DIGITAL RECORDERS The application process requires consideration of this grant during a public hearing before the City Council.
