An act relating to unemployment compensation insurance.
LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST
SB 642, as introduced, Negrete McLeod. Unemployment compensation:
computations: benefits.
Existing law provides for the payment of unemployment compensation
to unemployed individuals who meet certain eligibility requirements.
Under existing law, unemployment compensation benefits are based on
wages, as defined, paid in a base period, as defined.
This bill would declare the intent of the Legislature to provide
that, to the extent permitted by federal law, unemployment
compensation benefits payable to a retired public employee, who
receives the employer -paid defined benefit pension payments from a
former employer, may not be charged against that employer's account,
as specified.
Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no.
State -mandated local program: no.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. It is the intent of the Legislature to enact
legislation that would provide that, to the extent permitted by
federal law, unemployment insurance benefits payable to a retired
public employee, who is also receiving defined benefit pension
payments from a former employer, may not be charged against the
account of that employer, if the public employee voluntary retired
from employment.
