REQUEST: REQUEST FOR APPROVAL OF MEMORANDUM OF
UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE VOLUNTEER CENTER OF
RIVERSIDE COUNTY AND THE CITY OF PALM DESERT AS IT
RELATES TO PARTICIPATION IN THE 2-1-1 RIVERSIDE COUNTY

RECOMMENDATION:
By Minute Motion: 1) Authorize the Mayor to execute a Memorandum of Understanding
between the Volunteer Center of Riverside County and the City of Palm Desert as it relates
to participation in the 2-1-1 Riverside County Program (Contract No. C6500 );
2) appropriate $5,350.15 from the unobligated General Fund to Account No.
110-4159-415-3090.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The City of Palm Desert is an active participant in the 2-1-1 Riverside County Program, and
this agreement will allow the City's continued participation for the 2007/2008 Fiscal Year.
BACKGROUND:
On January 13, 2005, the Palm Desert City Council approved a Memorandum of
Understanding with the Volunteer Center of Riverside County (VCRC) for the City's
participation in the 2-1-1 Riverside County Program. This program is a referral service for
residents of Riverside County, which enables callers to receive information about available
programs and services throughout the County.
This program will provide a venue for Palm Desert residents and visitors to receive
information and referral services to callers via an 800 number or 2-1-1. These services
include a 24-hour response to inquiries about local human services with contracting

agencies via trained staff who have the experience and ability to provide such services ,
which include basic human needs resources, including food, clothing, and shelter; physical
and mental health resources; drug and alcohol intervention and rehabilitation; employment
support including job training and transportation assistance; support for senior citizens and
people with disabilities; support for children, youth, and families; child care services; legal
help; hospice care; summer camps and recreation programs; and protective services.
The attached Memorandum of Understanding is a continuation of the previously approved
one and does not reflect any increase from prior year funding. Therefore, staff
recommends that the City Council authorize the Mayor to execute the subject
Memorandum of Understanding and authorize payment of the Fiscal Year 2007/2008
invoice in the amount of $5,350.15 from the unobligated General Fund.
