RECOMMENDATION:
By Minute Motion, waive fees associated with The Historical Society of Palm Desert's
annual Founders' Day Celebration, scheduled to be held on Saturday, May 17, 2008, in the
Council Chamber located at the Palm Desert Civic Center.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The Historical Society of Palm Desert is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing the
community with information about the City's history. Each year, it hosts Founders' Day to
honor a member of the community who exemplifies its heritage.
BACKGROUND:
The Historical Society of Palm Desert has scheduled its annual Founders' Day Celebration
for May 17, 2008, to honor the founding of the City of Palm Desert and name its Founder
of the Year. Historical Society volunteers will set up the event and will clean up afterwards;
City staff will be on -site the day of the event to provide extra waste receptacles and assist
event organizers. Since this event is held for the benefit and pleasure of the community
and is free to the public, event planners are requesting that the required fees be waived,
which include appropriate reservation fees for the Council Chamber building ($100.00) and
one maintenance worker for five hours at $40.00/hour ($200.00), for a total consideration
of $300.00.

Staff recommends approval of this request, which is to waive fees associated with the 2008
Historical Society of Palm Desert's Founders' Day Celebration on May 17, 2008, at a total
cost of $300.00.

This letter is confirmation that the Board of Directors voted to hold the Founder's
Day/Palm Award on Saturday, May 17, 2008.
We are requesting use of Council Chambers for this event which is held from
2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Committee would need admittance at 11:00 a.m. to
set up the refreshment and reception tables.
We will appreciate Council consent for this annual event.
