Dear Kristy,
Thank you for considering supporting the 2008 Easter Bowl.
As we mentioned previously, this event costs close to $200,000 to run. We are sending you our
expenses from last yeaz which will be similaz this coming year. We generated 50 million print
impressions for the azea(which we credited to our host city Rancho Mirage) as we11 as
produced our nationally syndicated TV show, which costs close to $66,000. As you will see
from our P&L statement(see enclosed), our staff compensation, EB expenses, and overhead
total $197,000 and some bills aze still coming in.
We do not chazge admission for spectators of the tournament which means our only source of
income comes from sponsors and commissions. The city of Rancho Mirage has given us
$25,000 and all we aze asking from Palm Desert is $15,000. We are hoping that Palm Desert
will provide these funds in exchange not only for the business that your hotels get, but also the
enormous publicity that we bring to the area; in fact Palm Desert hotels generated more business
than Rancho Mirage.
The Easter Bowl is the most famous national junior tennis tournament, attracting the best 640
junior tennis stars with their aflluent families. More than three quarters of them have incomes of
$75,000 to $200,000. Many are professionals, corporate executives or heads of their own
businesses. Not only that, but we have key USTA executives, along with more than 150 private
coaches, many of whom manage their own clubs and are influential throughout the industry. In
addition, some of our corporate sponsors have brought their sales meetings to the Valley after
attending the Easter Bowl. According to Ed Svitak, former Riveria vice-president,the Easter
Bowl publicity resulted in an additional 4,000 room nigh[s throughout the year. The EB is
recognized as unique in the enormous major national, regional, and local media exposure it
delivers. The promotional staff at the Easter Bowl utilizes a number of different mediums to
achieve millions of print impressions.

The following aze some key points with regards to the Easter Bowl and how it benefits the Palm
Desert community. From the time we came to the Palm Springs area over eleven years ago, it
has officially been recorded that we generate from 3500 to 4000 room nights and we bring over
$1.2 million in revenue to the area. In addition, we generate major national publicity for the
valley via stories on players, sponsors and results of seminars and surveys.
• National TV: SHA produces and nationally syndicates a one-hour TV special. It airs
the highlights of six championships as well as delivering constant mention and
tremendous exposure for the azea. When you add all the audience for the different
networks that air the show, the Easter Bowl TV Special has a reach of over 50 million
households. Please note that many of the networks have multiple airings. (Attached is u
list of the difrerent networks that air the show).
• Print Media: Through its fully staffed press room, sports and mainstream media
contacts around the country, the Easter Bowl (according to Burrelle's clipping service)
generates 50 million print media impressions. We also have one full-page ad in the
Desert Sun(broken up into three different ads)and a full-page ad in Palm Springs Life
and Inside Tennis (oficial publication of California tennis associations) where Palm
Desert will be prominently featured.
• Electronic Media. Via the official Easter Bowl website, ww.eastcrhwl.com and
media partner w•w.juniortcnnis.com, Palm Desert will receive millions of additional
on-line impressions. There is heavy volume on both sites during the month of the Easter
Bowl and Juniortennis.com is the most populaz junior tennis website in the world. In
addition, the website wvw.tennisplaycr.nct has prominently featured the Easter Bowl in
a seven page spread that reaches millions of viewers.
Besides the budget and the air dates, we are sending you the 2008 Easter Bowl fact sheet and
quotes about SHA and the Easter Bowl. We are looking forward to a great 2008 Easter Bowl in
the desert.

PRELIMINARY MINUTES
PALM DESERT MARKETING COMMITTEE SEPTEMBER 18,2007
Sheila Gilligan stated that the Virginia Waring Piano Competition has been
around for many years and was a proven benefit to the City of Palm Desert.
Sara O'Flynn moved, by Minute Motion, to approve the $35,000 sponsorship request
from Virginia Waring Piano Competition and recommend that City Council appropriate those
funds. Motion was seconded by Michael Shimer and carried 4-0.
B. 2008 EASTER BOWL JUNIOR TENNIS
Kristy Kneiding introduced this item.
Upon question by Theresa Maggio, Ms. Kneiding stated that the Easter Bowl was
held during spring break so that most kids can participate. It was one of the best
junior tennis tournaments in the country.
Emily Bird suggested that in lieu of the $5,000 sponsorship the Committee could
approve the cost of purchasing the awards for the tournament.
Upon question by Michael Shimer, Ms. Kneiding responded that the organization
pays for tournament workers and volunteer's meals but not the participants.
Sara O'Flynn remarked that the original request was for $15,000 and staff was
recommending $5,000. She was comfortable with a $5,000 sponsorship
amount.
