ARTWORK PROPOSAL AND SPECIFICATIONS Describe the artwork, its location, materials, installation requirements, and maintenance needs as fully as possibe. You may use additional paper to complete this section of the application. 1. Artwork Description Five large abstracted plant forms made from stainless steel. The five elements appear to "tumble" across the space, ending in a flowering dandelion. The design is a play on the idea of a "tumbleweed." Rather than an actual tumbleweed, this is a "tumbling weed." The first piece faces towards the other end of the series, in an sort of seated position. Each part in the sequence has five leaves that take on the appearance of a head, finro arms, and two legs -- like a child doing a somersault across the space. The pieces are intended to create an overall playful story, while the complex yet flowing lines of each piece are sculpturally interesting unto themselves. 2. Siting Located in a landscaped area between two large retail buildings within the development, the pieces progress along a meandering line about one hundred feet in length. 3. Materials with Specifications All large surfaces will be fabricated from welded 14 gauge 304 stainless steel with a shiny "grind" finish. Some smaller surfaces will be formed from 16 gauge 304 stainless steel. Size and appearance of the work is indicated in the attached drawings and renderings. 4. Fabrication and Installation Procedures All work will be fabricated in-house by the artist himself. Developer will provide concrete foundations to the artist's specifications. Installation will involve delivering the work to the site via truck, then anchoring the work to the concrete foundations. No single piece of the sculpture will weigh more than 600 pounds, so no special heavy equipment is needed for the installation, all work can be lifted into place by a small boom-type forklift. 5. Yearly Maintenance and Conservation Annual hosing off to remove dust and pollutants. Stubborn grime such as bird droppings can be washed off with a mild soapy water solution and a soft rag. Graffiti can be removed with solvents like lacquer thinner and a soft rag. No abrasive cleaners or scrubbing should be applied to the work (like a scotch-brite pad). • City of Pa/m Desert--Art in Pubic Places 6.
