CONSENT CALENDAR A. APPROVAL OF THE JUNE 23, 2007, MEETING MINUTES Upon a motion by Member Gary Gill and second by Member Jonny Rohrbaugh, minutes of the June 23, 2007, meeting minutes were approved as presented. Motion carried by unanimous vote. APPROVED MINUTES PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE SEPTEMBER 11, 2007 IV. NEW BUSINESS A. PARTICIPATION IN VETERAN'S DAY Ms. Scully announced that the Youth Committee's participation at the City of Palm Desert's 2007 Veteran's Day Celebration is being solicited. Interested members should wear a Committee shirt (those who do not have one appropriate attire is necessary) and arrive at Freedom Park on Country Club Drive (behind Ronald Reagan Elementary School) no later than 10:30 a.m. on November 11, 2007, to distribute programs for this annual event. Chairperson Elle Wohlmuth will distribute a sign-up sheet at the October meeting. B. PARTICIPATION IN MAYOR'S CHALLENGE GOLF TOURNAMENT Mike Osgood from Desert Willow Golf Resort gave a brief presentation on the first annual Mayor's Challenge Golf Tournament scheduled for Sunday, September 23, 2007, beginning at 1 p.m. Teams of two were solicited, one participant a senior and the second participant under the age of 18. Golfers as well as volunteers are needed. Committee members interested in participating in this event should plan to arrive at the lobby at Desert Willow Golf Resort no later than 11 a.m. on Sunday, September 23`d V. CONTINUED BUSINESS A. NATIONAL YOUTH SERVICE DAY See comments under Jr./Sr Prom. B. JR./SR PROM Peter Rittenhouse, Executive Director of Joslyn Cove Community Senior Center, attended the meeting to discuss this year's fundraiser, proceeds of which will benefit the Senior Center. The tentative date of Saturday, April 12, 2008, from 4 — 7 p.m. on the lawn area of the Senior Center was set. Co-chair Raine Armstrong and Member Rohrbaugh are co-chairs of this activity. Given the timing of this event it was decided to make this activity the Youth Committee's participation in the National League of Cities Youth Service Day. Co-chairs of that Committee are Members Christina Sun and Chairperson Wohlmuth. Several ideas were discussed about activities that could be handled. Further discussion will be held at the October Youth Committee meeting to outline specific activities. 2 APPROVED MINUTES PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE SEPTEMBER 11, 2007 C. RESOURCE GUIDE Member Ryan Sheehy will begin working on the Resource Guide and asked Ms. Scully for the sample book she passed around at previous meetings. D. COMMUNITY DISPLAY Member Kate Hart and Member Jenna Scott will begin taking photographs of ineetings and Committee activities for a display that will be featured next year in the Art Gallery at the Visitor Information Center. VI. OLD BUSINESS None VII. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS A. CITY COUNCIL ISSUES None VIII. REPORTS AND REMARKS A. COMMITTEE MEMBERS Chairperson Wohlmuth outlined the information contained in the Committee binders and requested that these books be brought to each and every meeting and kept current. Chairperson Wohlmuth requested that Members wear their Committee shirts to meetings and activities in the community when representing the Committee in the community in order to make a more professional presentation. Chairperson Wohlmuth reminded the Committee that annual reappointments to the Committee are not automatic. Participation and involvement in the activities and projects in the Committee is required to maintain membership. B. STAFF Ms. Scully welcomed new people to the Committee and encouraged them to submit applications. Ms. Scully announced to the Committee that she will be speaking at a National League of Cities Conference on October 2"d, therefore, the City Clerk, Rachelle Klassen, will attend the Committee meeting on her behalf. 3 APPROVED MINUTES PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE SEPTEMBER 11, 2007 Ms. Scully distributed correspondence from the National League of Cities with regard to their new youth website. Ms. Scully announced that no chairs had been selected for Committee participation in the wreath lighting ceremony at the Visitor Information Center scheduled to be held on November 30th. Member Kevin Park and Committee Alternate Anna Miller volunteered. Ms. Scully reminded the Committee that while not everyone will chair a committee activity this year everyone is expected to participate. 1. Joint Meeting with City Council Ms. Scully announced that the joint meeting with the City Council will be scheduled in the near future by selecting a special meeting date. IX.
