Recommendation:
Authorize the City Manager to enter into a purchase order with Leadership Development
Associates in the amount of $55,000 for leadership training for staff.
Discussion:
In February 2006 staff approached the City Council with a proposal for Leadership
training as part of an overall succession planning strategy. At its February 9, 2006
meeting the Council authorized the City to enter into an agreement with Leadership
Development Associates to produce Palm Desert L.E.A.D.S., a customized leadership
development program for our staff. The program has been very successful, with thirty-
five employees having gone through the first two sessions. Our program was even
featured in the League of California Cities Employee Relations Newsletter.
Due to the program's success and the continued need for succession planning staff
planned for a third session in the FY 2007/2008 budget. Funds for this program were
included in the budget and at this time we are asking the City Council to authorize the
issuance of the purchase order.
