APPROVE the Proposal by Witmer Associates, Inc (Coatesville, PA) in the amount of $4,172.45 to purchase Gearmasters Turnout Gear Storage Lockers for Fire Station No. 67. Funds are available from the New Construction Tax Fund account 231-4220-422-4001. Discussion: The Palm Desert Fire Department requests the installation of new turnout gear storage lockers for Fire Station No. 67. On January 21, 2008, Fire Department Staff distributed their locker specification to three vendors. Of the three, only Gearmasters can provide the lockers to meet their specifications. The other two vendors, Mid-Minnesota Wire and Engineered Storage Systems, indicated that they did not manufacture lockers using the materials and dimensions specified. The Fire Department also stated that they will install the locker system once it is received. As the current locker system is old and in disrepair, staff recommends approval of this expenditure. All three vendors returned new bids to me either via emai; or fax. Only one of the bids (Gear Master) can provide lockers that meet or specifications. I contacted the other two cc.mpanies (Mid- Minnesota Wire and F.ngineered Storage Systems) via telephone and both companies stated that they do not manufacture lockers using the materials specified or to the dimensions specified. In conclusion I recommend that we purchase the turn out lockers for Station 67 from Geramasters. I havc attached their latest bid to this memo. Sincerely, anil Talbot Station 67
