CONSENT CALENDAR ��� ' ��� � a A. APPROVAL OF THE DECEMBER 3, 2007, MEETING MINUTES Upon a motion by Member Bryce Griffith and second by Member Johnny Rohrbaugh, minutes of the December 3, 2007, meeting minutes were approved as presented. Motion carried by unanimous vote. IV. NEW BUSINESS A. COMMITTEE PRIORITIES Chairman Wohlmuth requested that each member bring three or four projects or issues to the next meeting so that the Committee can begin to prioritize its activities. APPROVED MINUTES PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE JANUARY 7, 2008 V. CONTINUED BUSINESS A. JR./SR LUAU Peter Rittenhouse, Executive Director of the Joslyn Cove Communities Senior Center, attended the meeting to continue organization of the Polynesian Garden Party scheduled to be held from 4 — 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2008, at the Senior Center. It was decided to advertise the event with appropriately themed attire. Pat Scully and Mr. Rittenhouse will get together to finalize the menu for the evening. Ms. Scully will order a booth for picture taking and bring film and Polaroid cameras so that participants can have their photographs taken at the event. Member Griffith will make contact with appropriate staff at Palm Desert High School regarding the use of their sno cone maker. Ms. Scully will request that City staff prepare the tickets and have them available for distribution at the March Youth Committee meeting. Tickets will also be sold at the Senior Center. Mr. Rittenhouse added that his members requested that the youth participate in a limbo contest which will be judged by the seniors and a hula contest will be held as well. Alternate Alahna Dunbar will have her mother contact Michael Shimer at Tommy Bahamas to ascertain the availability of gift certificates for use as prizes for the hula contest. Member Abby Sturgeon �will serve as the Master of Ceremonies for the evening and will work with other Committee members to select appropriate music. Mr. Rittenhouse stated that a sound system is available at the Senior Center so it will not be necessary to hire live music. Co-chair Raine Armstrong and Member Rohrbaugh will contact the Senior Center to arrange a visit to see the setup and check out what decorations are available. Any additional decorations needed would be ordered before the next meeting. B. UPDATE ON RESOURCE GUIDE Members passed their list of what they would like to see in the Resource Guide to Member Ryan Sheehy, who will begin to prioritize the material and will present a report at the February meeting. Member Sheehy inquired of the Committee what size they would like the Resource Guide to be. The Committee determined that a smaller version would be appropriate and will be finalized with spiral binding. This project is set for production in the 2008/2009 fiscal year and will be funded through the 2 APPROVED MINUTES PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE JANUARY 7, 2008 budget process. Member Sheehy advised that he would do a mock up prior to meeting with City staff who will be responsible for its actual production. C. COMMUNITY DISPLAY Ms. Scully turned over additional pictures to Member Kate Hart and advised that she would contact the Public Art Coordinator Deborah Schwartz to ascertain when the pictures will be displayed at the Visitor Center GaNery. D. COMMUNITY RECOGNITION PROGRAM It was the consensus of the Committee to wait until the City's priority list is established before pursuing with this program. VI. OLD BUSINESS None VII. INFORMATIONAL tTEMS A. CITY COUNCIL ISSUES None VIII. REPORTS AND REMARKS A. COMMITTEE MEMBERS None B. STAFF Ms. Scully mentioned that the design of Freedom Park, in which the Committee had significant input, has won a Statewide Design Award. Ms. Scully reminded the Committee that they serve at the pleasure of the City Council. Ms. Scully inquired that if any members of the Committee do not wish to be reappointed, please advise her of this prior to the next meeting. Ms. Scully announced that attendance requirements for both voting members and alternates must be strictly enforced in 2008. The Resolution, which organizes the Committee, states that three absences in any calendar year constitutes an automatic resignation. 3 APPROVED MINUTES PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE JANUARY 7, 2008 IX.
