Motion carried by unanimous vote. APPROVED MINUTES PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE NOVEMBER 5, 2007 IV. NEW BUSINESS A. ORAL PRESENTATION BY MAYOR DICK KELLY REGARDING POTENTIAL YOUTH COMMITTEE PROJECT Mayor Dick Kelly gave an overview of a potential event to be sponsored by the Youth Committee. Given the prominence of former and/or current community members, he thought it might be nice for the Youth Committee to recognize an individual or group that has made a difference. Recently, Nicole Castrelli, a graduate of Palm Desert High School and member of its golf team, was on the Stroheim Cup and made the winning putt against the European team. She currently resides in Palm Desert and will be in town on December 12. The City has scheduled a reception on December 12 for members of the community who would like to meet her. In discussing the potential for a long-term event with staff, Mayor Kelly learned that this might be something that the Youth Committee would like to sponsor and, in future years, develop the program and criteria for selection. Ms. Scully added that the projected audience for this proposal be youth oriented. This year's event is scheduled for December 12 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Desert Willow Golf Resort. Mr. Kelly added that the Youth Committee would be charged with coming up with a program and distributing invitations. Ms. Scully commented that she would prepare the invitations and send them to the event subcommittee, which consists of Chairwoman Wohlmuth, Vice-Chair Raine Armstrong, and Member Abby Sturgeon. By a unanimous consensus of the Committee, they would like to be involved in this event in future years and would be willing to sponsor the 2007 event for Nicole Castrelli and the Palm Desert High School Golf Teams. Ms. Scully will meet with the subcommittee on Monday, November 26, to settle the program but invitations will be sent out prior to that date. B. JOINT COMMlTTEE/COMMISSIONS— CITY COUNCIL MEETING Ms. Scully asked that this item be continued to a date uncertain. V. CONTINUED BUSINESS A. Members who do not have a shirt need to wear something patriotic to the event. A sign-up sheet was distributed for the Youth Committee wishing to participate in this event. Members participating should arrive at the Visitor Information Center located on Highway 111 at 5:25 p.m. on Friday, November 30. Members needing directions can contact Ms. Scully. C. JR./SR LUAU Vice-Chair Armstrong reported that he placed a call to Mr. Peter Rittenhouse, Executive Director of the Joslyn Senior Center; however, had not received a return phone call. Ms. Scully advised that with the flurry of activities in getting the season started, Mr. Rittenhouse has been extremely busy and she will make contact and set-up something around the first of December. D. UPDATE ON RESOURCE GUIDE Member Ryan Sheehy requested input on the proposed format and content of the Resource Guide. There were several ideas and a discussion was held about the type of information that should be contained in this document. Therefore, Ms. Scully requested that each member bring to the next meeting a list of items that they would like to see contained in the Resource Guide so Member Sheehy could then begin focusing and prioritizing. STAFF Ms. Scully inquired which members have not yet received their Committee shirts and advised that she would place an order for those shirts in the immediate future. Ms. Scully reminded the Committee that Committee Alternates attendance requirements were the same as those for voting members. Ms. Scully advised that the Youth Committee had been notified in error for the opportunities to volunteer at the Art of Food & Wine and requested that members disregard the notice, as State or Federal laws do not permit minors to participate in any events where alcohol is served. Ms. Scully stated that the Committee member must place "requests for recommendation" and "letters of reference." Do not ask parents to make the request.
