REQUEST: Approve Agencies to provide temporary staffing services for
FY 2007/2008

Recommendation:
By Minute Motion: Identify and approve the agencies listed below to
provide temporary staffing services to the City of Palm Desert on an as
needed basis for the balance of FY 2007/2008 in an amount not to exceed
$50,000.
Discussion:
The City utilizes temporary staffing services on an as -needed basis. These
services are primarily used to cover vacant positions, or positions in which the
regular staff person is off work due to a leave of absence. In addition the City
utilizes a temporary staffing services company to process payroll functions for our
student worker/internship program.
Charges for these services vary depending upon the position covered and the
length of the assignment. In July 2007 the City Council approved a staff report
authorizing the City to use various temporary staffing agencies; however this
report did not specify a dollar amount for approval. In these cases the City
Manager is authorized to approve expenditures up to a total of $25,000. Due to an
unanticipated retirement and various employee leaves we have expended the
$25,000. The City still has a need for temporary staffing and the processing of
payroll functions for the student/internship program and therefore we are
requesting authorization to issue purchase orders not to exceed $50,000 for the
following agencies:

The City has used these agencies in the past, and staff has considered price and
quality of service in recommending their approval. Funds are available in the
approved FY 2007/2008 budget.
