Surveyor to attend the 2008 California Land Surveyors Association Annual
Conference in Reno, Nevada, February 23-27, 2008.
Discussion:
OffirE
It is necessary for the City Surveyor to stay abreast of current laws and advances in
technology. The most efficient and cost-effective way to achieve this continuing education is
to attend the annual Land Surveyors Association conference. Here, comprehensive training is
offered on many aspects of the land surveying field, including land development and mapping,
over a period of a few days. The alternative to attending this out-of-state conference would be
to attend several one- or two-day conferences in California, which would be piecemeal,
random and almost certainly more costly in the aggregate. The four -day conference fee for
the 2008 California Land Surveyors conference is $365; with approximately $1,000 for travel -
related expenses (airfare, hotel, meals, etc.), the estimated total cost is $1,365. Funds are
available in the Public Works Conference/Seminars/Workshops Account No. 110-4614-453-
3120.
Therefore, staff recommends that City Council, by minute motion, approve out-of-state travel
for the City Surveyor to attend the 2008 California Land Surveyors' Association Annual
Conference in Reno, Nevada, February 23-27, 2008.
